Old Trapper - Peppered Beef Jerky 3.25ozUpdate Dec 2014: Open up this link for a more recent jerky review on Old Trapper Brindled Beefiness Jerky (Recipe #3).

I before reviewed an Old Trapper i ounce/28 gram pocketbook of their brindled flavor. This bag is 3.25 ounces/92 grams, merely there is one difference in the ingredient list. No ratings will change in this review, simply the price was changed from inexpensive to average for this 3.25 ounce/92 gram purse.

Typically, when a jerky maker changes their ingredient list, it is commonly in favor of cheaper, inferior ingredients. This bag was bought in June, 2012, at a convenience store in Barstow, California.

Sometime Trapper jerky is made by Quondam Trapper Smoked Products, Inc. from Wood Grove, Oregon. On the back of the Old Trapper jerky bag, they describe how they have over 40 years experience making jerky. They continue to describe how the finest ingredients are used, and then smoked with existent forest. At first glance information technology appears to be a loftier quality hasty product.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Brown Sugar, Water, Salt, Flavorings, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Vinegar, Sodium Nitrite

The beefiness used is not guaranteed to be gratis of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is non guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. Equally a upshot, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

The liquid marinade is merely water and healthy vinegar. Spices is listed equally one ingredient, and in general very healthy. It is mutual for jerky makers to list the vague term spices, where that way they don't have to disclose what actual spices are used to their competitors. With this existence a peppered season, black pepper should be for sure ane spice.

The saccharide level is three.5 grams per 28 grams of jerky, which is adequate. The common salt level is also acceptable at 213mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

Unhealthy sodium nitrite is the main preservative used, autonomously from salt. The flavor enhancer hydrolyzed corn protein is a particularly bad ingredient, which is highly processed, and believed to exist a class of MSG. Hydrolyzed Corn Protein is listed higher on the ingredient list than even vinegar.

Taste Review

Update December 2014: Click this link for a more recent jerky review on Old Trapper Brindled Beefiness Jerky (Recipe #3).

The texture of this jerky is adequately dry with solid strips of beef that have medium thickness. It is non overly chewy, pretty much the perfect dryness for my liking. The taste itself is nothing overly special. Being a peppered flavor, you would expect a peppery flavor, only the blackness pepper taste itself is mild. In that location is some saltiness, sweetness and a smoky season, simply zilch overbearing.

At $half dozen.99 for a three.25 oz/92 gram pocketbook, that works out to $two.15 an ounce. From the Old Trapper spider web site, the bag would cost $half dozen.00, which works out to $one.85 an ounce. That would equate to an average price.

Fair (four/10) – Gustatory modality Rating

Bag Review

This bag is a professional looking bag. Everything is imprinted directly on the bag, and there are no labels affixed. The logo is of a man who appears to be wearing a beaver cap.

Their slogans is "Gustation the Best". Some facts printed on this purse are "Made From Solid Strips of Beef", "Since 1969", and "Naturally Smoked".

All bag categories are covered. At that place is a good blurb printed on the back of this purse about Quondam Trapper. Equally an added bonus there are USA flags on the front and back to signify fabricated in the USA, or at to the lowest degree packaged in the United states of america.
